Background: Candidatus (Ca.) Neoehrlichia (N.) mikurensis is an emerging tick-borne pathogen of humans that is closely related to Ehrlichia and Anaplasma species. This strict intracellular bacterium escapes detection by routine microbiologic diagnostic methods such as blood culture leading to considerable under-diagnosis of the infectious disease it causes, neoehrlichiosis. “Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis” (Ca. N. mikurensis) is a tick-borne bacterial pathogen that can cause disease particularly among immune compromised persons. This new infectious disease is called neoehrlichiosis. The clinical picture of neoehr-lichios is characterized by fever, migrating pain, and vascular/thromboembolic 2018-03-01 2011-12-01 2014-03-18 “ Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis” is an uncultured emerging bacterium, provisionally included in the family Anaplasmataceae.

To date, “ Ca. N. mikurensis” has been found in ticks in different countries in Asia and Europe, but never as Background. The first description of the bacterium was published as late Of 771 rodents, 68 (8.8%) were infected by Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis, but no other Anaplasmataceae were found. Candidatus N. mikurensis has recently been found in human patients in Germany, Switzerland, and Sweden, which suggests that this could be an emerging pathogen in Europe. U2 - 10.3201/eid1709.101058. Neoehrlichia” has been studied only by comparing 16S rRNA genes and groEL operon sequences. We describe the development and use of a multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) protocol to Of 771 rodents, 68 (8.8%) were infected by Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis, but no other Anaplasmataceae were found.
New Tick-borne Disease Threatens Primarily Immune
The bacterium has a thin periplasmic space that separates the outer unit membrane from the inner cell wall. This is a common characteristic of the family Anaplasmataceae (Yabsley et al. 2008a). Ecology of Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis Candidatus Neoehrlichia came under the focus of recent research in terms of human and pet relevance .The coccoid Gram-negative bacteria Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis (CNM) and Candidatus Neoehrlichia lotoris (CNL) are supposed to be mainly associated with rodents and raccoons, respectively [1, 2]. Candidatus Neoehrlichiamikurensis (CNM) is an emerging tick-borne pathogen that causes cases of human neoehrlichiosis. Although this intracellular bacterium has first been isolated and analyzed in Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis is an emerging tick-borne pathogen causing a systemic inflammatory syndrome mostly in persons with underlying hematologic or autoimmune diseases. As it is neither well-known nor well-recognized, it might be misdiagnosed as recurrence of the underlying disease or as an unrelated arteriosclerotic vascular event.
